HABIT REHAB DAY 1:  Focus-Capture-Develop  . . . Take another Shot!

There are times that the CHANGES happening around you are so challenging making it very hard to FOCUS on what you do want because so much of what you don’t want is in the NEWS and all around you.

I first noticed my attitude shift into grouchy with the energy shift on January 16, 2017–MLK Day.

Since Martin Luther King day, I noticed that my daily habits (with the chaotic energy in the USA and around the world) threw me out of balance . . . how about YOU?

One of the many things that I love and appreciate about MLK was his unshakable CLARITY of purpose even with forces pressing against him on a regular basis. How did he do it?
When he said, “I have been to the mountain top,” “my eyes have seen….”  this kind of power that he is pointing to, the kind that he continued to speak out of, this sort of power became so visible to so many of us that we too felt compelled to follow him even into 2017!
Did we follow him, or were we following that indisputable clarity and visible strength that so many of us witnessed through him?

He didn’t fight, he didn’t hate, he didn’t disgrace, he didn’t do harm. He simply followed the clarity of his inner guidance and purpose making his fear of the hatred all around him. . . secondary to the courage and conviction of equal rights + the enlightenment of those who would listen.

HABIT REHAB DAY 2
On day one I gave you a Habit Rehab Journal page with the intent of looking at how you are managing your time, your impulse control, your productivity. We are just getting started so don’t beat yourself up … we do have 38 more days to get ourselves into the ‘groove’.

DAY 2 is about impulse control which is so important when it comes to keeping your day + your diet on track. And who teaches this lesson better than children with a task + a treasure with the MARSHMALLOW Test teaching them about long term enduring gratification Vs short term immediate gratification. A great lesson!

HABIT RE-HAB DAY 3: Mistakes are just mis-TAKES
Be willing to make them!
 
The Theater of the Mind has created something wonderful for you . . . your IMAGINATION is the most powerful tool in your toolbox.
 
You really really want what you have in your mind, or what you have seen from or of another. Your imagination has worked overtime, you have researched the How-TO’s, you can see, hear, feel it done and you doing “it”.
 
What stops you is your WILL POWER–another TOOL in the toolbox that needs some consideration.
 
If you compare these two tools,do you agree your IMAGINATION is much stronger than your WILL POWER? and could that BE because your will power leads you into ACTION??
 
The DIRECTOR of your MIND calls “ACTION” causing many to get STUCK because they do not want to ‘make a mistake’ . . . so they DO nothing, they “procrastinate”.
Consider a director in a real movie calling “ACTION”, would s/he expect to take at least a few retakes of a scene? Is it realistic to expect perfection on the first take?? It is the DIRECTORS (your mind) job to remind you there are NO mistakes in LIFE, just mis-TAKES.  Do-Overs . . . Let’s do it Again (this way this time) . . . ok it is time to ReFocus!

HABIT RE-HAB DAY 4:  a “HABIT” is an automatic set of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors!  Motivation is what gets you started, but your Habit is what keeps you going!

Image result for habit imagesA “HABIT” means you are on automatic pilot where you don’t have to think, you don’t have to choose, you simply go toward your comfort zone(s) immediately and regularly . . . and sometimes . . . some of us get stuck in self-limiting thoughts, unconscious habits and memorized emotions.

It is then that a “HABIT” can the enemy of CHANGE!

MINDSET: The brain is primed to focus on predicable reality because the unknown is the unknown and it can be scary.
WILLPOWER: It takes energy to break the emotional bonds that you have to your self-limiting thoughts, unconscious habits, and memorized emotions.
Breaking the bonds can make you feel uncomfortable because the habitual memorized energy is coming back to you.
CHOICE: People make choices based on familiar feelings. After making some mistakes and experiencing a few setbacks, most people fall back to their old behaviors.
DEFENSE: People look for reasons why they are the way they are without looking for a way to CHANGE.

Dr Stephen R Covey: The 7-HabitsI had the privilege of being the first woman hired to be a national trainer + executive coach for Dr. Stephen Covey facilitating retreats across the country for executives.
 
In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:  PARADIGMS are defined as your view of the world, your explanations for what you observe in the world around you. IE: when you put ON your glasses, you see the world ONE way, and when you take your glasses off–you see things differently . . . AND, sometimes our paradigms become so far removed from reality (out of focus) that they become dysfunctional and not a true reflection of reality because it is shaped by your attitudes and perceptions of how you see it.
 
A “paradigm shift” occurs when your ‘view of the world’ changes, allowing you to see things in a new light. Sometimes this happens suddenly, and sometimes it is very gradual.
 
Product DetailsFor Example: Before The 7-Habits was published, Dr Covey was working as a corporate consultant, giving seminars about leadership development, when one of his sons began to experience social and academic problems.
This son was a late bloomer, still immature and uncoordinated at a time when most other boys were growing up into young men. Covey and his wife spent years trying to “help” their son, trying to change him, trying to coach him into being more competent, trying to defend him to others.
One day, after a long period of frustration, Covey experienced a paradigm shift in his thinking. He realized that all the help and support his wife + he were providing to his son wasn’t useful to him; in fact just the opposite was true because it was sending his son the message that ‘he wasn’t capable of taking care of himself, and that who he really was, wasn’t good enough’ (NEG message).
The PARADIGM SHIFT needed wasn’t his son’s problem in his lack of development . . . the problem was theirs, the parents’ attitudes which needed changing.

HABIT REHAB DAY 7

Change is hard. Really hard.
YOU know if you have tried to quit: smoking, overeating, saying negative things, exceeding your budget, being controlling, being a push-over, being out of focus … the list goes on + on. Research says people experience extreme difficulty REHAB-ing a single habit. And most of us don’t experience a rapid 21 day paradigm shift of CHANGE.
NO, for most of us, that SHIFT comes as an evolutionary process nudging ourselves in the right direction on something over a very long period of time.
Soooo what really makes you sit up and take notice?
What really causes you to shed your old habits and take action?

*Disgust with ourselves.
*Making a decision when our backs are to the wall.
*Desire that won’t be extinguished.
*Resolve to do or die.
*Can you think of another?

Ultimately, it comes down to FEELINGS of disgust, desire, resolve, regret that pushes the performance button in YOU. Under the power of emotions, human beings can perform amazing acts.
WE are more willing to ACT against a negative feeling, than we are to act for a positive because we have that fight or flight part of ourselves that does not like pain, any sort of pain: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.

HABIT REHAB DAY 8
Yesterday I asked what really makes you sit up and take notice?
What really causes you to shed your old habits and take action?

*Disgust with ourselves.
*Making a decision when our backs are to the wall.
*Desire that won’t be extinguished.
*Resolve to do or die.
*Can you think of another?

Ultimately, it comes down to EMOTIONS, so today we start with DISGUST. Most do not equate the word “disgust” with a positive action. And yet if properly channeled, disgust can change a person’s life!
The person who feels disgusted has reached a point of no return. S/he is ready to throw down the gauntlet and say, “I’ve had it!”  “I don’t want to live like this anymore. I’ve had it with being broke. I’ve had it with being embarrassed, I’ve had it with playing small and finding mediocrity acceptable.”

Yes, productive feelings of disgust come when a person says, “Enough is Enough”

The “I’ve had it” day, the “never again” day, the “enough’s enough” day is powerful day! Those awful sick feelings of fear, pain and humiliation motivate them into saying they will not live like THIS anymore.

On day 8 I asked what really makes you sit up and take notice?
What really causes you to shed your old habits and take action?

Ultimately, it comes down to EMOTIONS, so yesterday we talked about Disgust, today we talk about making a DECISION

Most of us need to be pushed to the wall to make decisions. And once we reach this point, we have to deal with the conflicting emotions that come with making a decision. Each of us must confront our emotional turmoil and sort out our feelings. Image result for fork in the road

You have reached a fork in the road.
Now this fork can be a two-prong, three-prong or even a four-prong fork.  No wonder that decision-making can create knots in stomachs, keep you awake in the middle of the night or make you break out in a cold sweat.
Making life-changing decisions can be likened to internal civil war. Conflicting armies of emotions, each with its own arsenal of reasons, battle each other for supremacy of your mind.
And your resulting decisions, whether bold or timid, well thought out or impulsive, can either set the course of action or blind it.

My advice when decision-making is this:
Whatever you do, don’t camp at the fork in the road! DECIDE. It’s far better to make a wrong decision than to not make one at all.

HABIT REHAB DAY 10
On day 7, I asked what really makes you sit up and take notice?

How does one gain desire? gain new passion?

Hmmmmm. . .I know two things about desire:

a. Desire comes from the inside, not the outside.
b. Desire can be triggered by outside forces.

Image resultAlmost anything can trigger desire. It’s a matter of timing as much as preparation.
It might be a song that tugs at the heart.
It might be a memorable sermon.
It might be a movie, a conversation with a friend, a confrontation with the enemy or a bitter experience.
Even a book or an blogpost such as this one can trigger the inner mechanism that will make some people say, “I want more”!

Therefore, while searching for your “points + pieces” of pure, raw desire, welcome into your life each positive experience.
Remember yesterday, Don’t camp at the YforkY of Decision making.

Camping out at the YforkY and never deciding might keep you out of some level of disappointment, but it also keeps the sunlight of enriching experiences away from YOU.

So let life . . . let the light touch you.
The next TOUCH of DESIRE could be the one that turns your life around.

Ultimately, it comes down to EMOTIONS, so we have talked about Disgust, Decisions, Desire and today we talk about RESOLVE.
 
To bridge the gap, two words say it all, they are: “I will.”
These two words are among the most potent words in the English language. I will.
When someone resolves to “do or die,” nothing can stop him.
When confronted with iron-willed determination: Time, Fate and Circumstance call a mastermind conference and decides.

Years ago I was speaking about success to a group and I asked, “What does ‘resolve’ mean to you?”
Several hands went up, I got some good definitions, then a shy woman from the back stood and said with quiet determination:
“RESOLVE means promising yourself you will never give up.”
That’s it!  Promise yourself you’ll never give up.  Sort of like until ‘death do us part’.  
Pray – Trust – Wait – Resolve
There is a vital lesson in contemplating the meaning of RESOLVE.
Ask yourself, “Was I created to FLY?”

“There has to be a moment when you take a hard look at the truth and contend with the fact it is no longer acceptable. You must be uncomfortable to make a change.”

Over the next few days, we will look at a few of Steve Olsher’s steps to long term change.

I love this quote: “The same boiling water that softens a potato also hardens an egg . . . meaning . . . it is about WHAT you’re made of . . . and not the boiling water (circumstances).
If you’ve ever been stuck in trying to resolve problems with finances, health, relationships, career or other areas, seek tough love.
“Ask for honest feedback from those you love,” Olsher says.

AND be prepared to truly hear it and separate the MESSAGE from the messenger.

“Assure the person, ‘I will not get mad at you. I need to hear the truth.’ Then don’t get mad when you hear it.”

❤ HERE IS A PERSONAL EXAMPLE

A collegue of mine who is an outstanding trainer and works on 3 continents, sent me a letter asking me to help her with a ”get real” homework assignment posing these 3 questions.

1. How have I added value to your life?

2. What do you see as my greatest strengths?

3. What do you perceive I’m most passionate about?

To keep it simple, she asked for 1-liners on these 3-Q’s from 10 trusted friends.

I was honored to tell her how she had added value to my life over the past 25 years.
It was a pleasure to let her know my perceptions of her greatest strengths and what I believed her to be most passionate about!

BUT to Get Real with Yourself, how often are you too scared to ask for feedback from collegues, friends, or family? Could it be if you ask the right person (not the right now person) but the right person, they will be tickled pink to support you. I ❤ helping people.


HABIT REHAB DAY 13.
Steve Olsher, author of the New York Times best-seller “What Is Your WHAT: Discover the One Amazing Thing You Were Born to Do!”
 
Tells us to BUILD A SUPPORT NETWORK to make the change.
Recent studies indicate that people you spend time with affect your habits, whether good or bad.
I went to see    The Shack and it did not disappoint.  It is a story of a grieving father who receives a mysterious, personal invitation to meet with Papa at a place called “The Shack“,
the same place that his 6-y.o. daughter had been murdered.
 
Once at The Shack, Mack finds out that Papa is not alone, she brought along Mack’s
Support System.
The movie is really heart warming and thought provoking.
Steve Olsher’s best-seller: *What Is Your “WHAT”: Discover the One Amazing Thing You Were Born to Do!* suggests to build a support system when discovering your “what”. Mack makes the discovery of the importance of a powerful support system in the movie!
One scene I particularly liked was with Mack in the Shack, his network of support saying:
 
Trinity: I have always been with you
Carpenter: I am with you
Papa: I will always be with you
 

She went onto say. . . when you focus on pain, you lose sight of me.

Over the last 2 days I have quoted Steven Olsher, author of the New York Times best-seller “What Is Your WHAT? Discover the One Amazing Thing You Were Born to Do!”

We talked about
# 1 GET REAL WITH YOURSELF!
# 2 BUILD A SUPPORT NETWORK
# 3 TAKE BABY STEPS

“The key to success is stringing together enough of the right decisions,” Olsher contends, and science backs this up. A classic Stanford University study observed kids who had trouble with math. One group was instructed to set smaller goals to tackle math problems, while a second group was asked to set long-term goals. The first group accurately solved 80 percent of the problems; the second group, only 40 percent. Take baby steps!

# 4 AVOID LOSS
If focusing on a goal doesn’t work, don’t be surprised. In their best-selling Change Anything: The New Science of Personal Success, authors Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, David Maxfield, Ron McMillan and Al Switzler write that humans are more motivated to avoid loss than to attain gain.
In other words, envisioning a life plagued with heart disease or an early death is a more powerful agent for creating healthy eating habits than picturing yourself looking hot in a swimsuit… so focus on avoiding loss.


HABIT REHAB DAY 15
Excerpt from Émile Coué’s Self-Mastery through Conscious Autosuggestion (1922)

Every morning before getting up and every evening as soon as you are in bed, shut your eyes, and repeat twenty times in succession, moving your lips (this is indispensible) and counting mechanically on a long string with twenty knots, the following phrase:
“Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better.”
Do not think of anything particular, as the words “in every way” apply to everything.
Make this autosuggestion with confidence, with faith, with the certainty of obtaining what you want.
The greater the conviction, the greater and the more rapid will be the results obtained.
Further, every time in the course of the day or night that you feel any distress physical or mental, immediately affirm to yourself that you will not consciously contribute to it, and that you are going to make it disappear; then isolate yourself as much as possible, shut your eyes, and passing your hand over your forehead, if it is something mental, or over the part which is painful, if it is something physical, repeat extremely quickly, moving your lips, the words:

“It is going, it is going”, etc., etc., as long as it may be necessary. With a little practice the physical or mental distress will have vanished in 20 to 25 seconds.
Begin again whenever it is necessary.


HABIT-REHAB DAY 16
An affirmation uses words to guide your creativity toward the experience of wholeness.
 
In 1923, a French psychologist, scientist and pharmacist by the name of Dr. Émile Coué came to this country to lecture about his very successful program that was designed to use the hidden Power of the Mind.
He explained how we could better our circumstances if we would repeat this affirmation (then autosuggestion) many times each day: 
Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better.”
 
❤ HISTORY: Dr. Émile Coué was a chemist for almost thirty years in Troyes, France, where he was bom. After studying+experimenting with hypnosis, he developed a psychotherapy of his own, based on autosuggestion, names the Coué Method.
In 1910 he opened a free clinic in Nancy,France where he successfully treated thousands of patients—with an amazing variety of afflictions—some with rheumatism, severe headaches, asthma, paralysis of a limb, others with stammering, tubercular sores, fibrous tumors, and ulcers.
Dr. Émile Coué clearly states that HE never cured anyone because (he said) he taught his patients to cure themselves.
There is no doubt that the cures occurred—they are well documented—but unfortunately— the Coué Method has almost entirely disappeared since his death in 1926.
Had this method been so complex that only a few specialists could learn to practice it, it might be alive and well today, but it is such a simple method, everyone can learn it.
 
As a matter of fact, it is so simple, when Dr. Coué came to America in 1923, he was laughed at.
 
The heart of the Coué Method is in Mind Control with these two basic principles:
1. We can think of only one thing at a time, and
2. When we concentrate on a thought, the thought becomes true because our bodies transform it into action.
 
Therefore, if you want to trigger your body’s healing processes, which may be blocked by negative thoughts (conscious or unconscious), just repeat twenty times in succession,
Everyday, in every way, I AM getting better and better.”
Do this twice a day and YOU are using the Dr. Émile Coué method.  SIMPLE!!

HABIT-REHAB DAY 17
 
An AFFIRMATION is a powerful PESTICIDE removing hamful seed thoughts, essentially making room for heathy ones.
Yesterday, I introduced you to Dr. Émile Coué, a French scientist and creator of the Coué Method. A method that is so simple to keep your head + heart clear of harmful seed thoughts, that the method was dismissed as ridiculous—except by those whom employed the method and achieved great happiness and satisfaction. 🙂
 
The second affirmation (autosuggestion) Dr. Coué offered us is:
“Negative thoughts, negative suggestions, have no influence over ME at any level of mind.”
 
These two auto-suggestions produced an impressive number of healings with patients using The Coué Method regularly. Dr Coué was a trained hypnotist, but soon decided that if a patient had to come to HIM—that created a level of ‘dependency on him’ and he preferred self mastery, so he removed himself from the process, gave his clients a piece of ‘string’ + powerful ‘auto-suggestion’ that worked.
 
Dr. Coué gave his clients a piece of string with twenty knots evenly interspaced throughout its length (like a rosary) . . . the string is only a tool to allow his clients to run their fingers over the knots, repeating the autosuggestion on each knot:
EVERYDAY IN EVERY WAY—I AM—GETTING BETTER + BETTER
 
Counting the knots on the string refocused the mind through the hands, the head, and the heart allowing “you” to shift into an affirmative attitude in the moment.
 
❤ The heart of the Coué Method is based on these two basic principles:

2. When we concentrate on a thought, the thought becomes true because our bodies transform it into action.
 
Before Dr Coué’s visit to the United States, several thousand patients had achieved amazing results in Nancy, France, however, when he presented his findings of ‘self-empowerment’ to America he was unable to gain much ground with his method because, as he said it:
“The Americans do not take time to consider the meaning behind their words. They move too fast for their own good.”
 
The reason Dr Coué insisted on the repetition of his simple affirmation/autosuggestion to be re-stated 20-times, was that he believed that this (self induced hypnotic suggestion) must become internalized, self-realized and deeply rooted in the mind before it would change any level of consciousness. . . before it could be effective. It needed to become an inner conviction and not only a superficial suggestion.
 
EVERYDAY IN EVERY WAY—I AM—GETTING BETTER + BETTER
 
For me, I use the tap method and simply tap my thumb to each finger and run through my 10-fingers twice to complete the repetition of 20. I do this in the car, waiting for appointments, whenever I have a moment that I am forced to “wait”.

HABIT RE-HAB DAY 18: SILVA MIND MEDITATION TECHNIQUE

To relax the mind and the body, it is quite easy according to Jose Silva, author of the Silva Mind Control Method (your own mind is the one you are controlling–right? and this is very useful to use with active children :))
Here are the levels of the brainwaves:
Beta-Alpha-Theta-Delta

You want to move out of Beta and into Alpha with the 3-2-1 method. Situate yourself sitting or laying down. I like to put my thumb touching my first + second fingers (as if you are holding a key to your ignition to start a new engine in your mind) Hold your fingers on BOTH hands this way and simple rest them on your belly. 🙂 Always do this because your are triggering your mind/body in the future that when your fingers hold the imaginary key–YOU–can go there. (The KEY is your imaginary relaxed place) 

At the highest level of STRESS, your brainwaves are moving so fast, it is likened to a seizure of the mind, and this then affects the entire body starting with your breathing, your heart beat, tension in the muscles – and so on – and so on.
Visualize the #3 on the inhale, and exhale saying to yourself
Going to Level.
Visualize the #2 on the inhale, and exhale saying to yourself
Going to Level.
Visualize the #1 on the inhale, and exhale saying to yourself
Going to Level.
 
OK–I admit it, I could NOT do this to start, so I started at 100 and did a backwards countdown:
BREATH 100-going to level.
BREATH 99-going to level.
BREATH 98-going to level.
 
The cool thing about starting at 100 when learning to meditate and get into deep relaxation is you can ‘measure’ your resistance. If the word LEVEL does not work for you in the start, BREATH (inhale) and as you exhale say the number you are on, but also say MY NECK IS IN TOTAL RELAXATION and progressively work down your body as your body sinks deeper and deeper. Then later your body will KNOW that “going to LEVEL” means deep relaxation from HEAD to TOE, but do work this progressive relaxation techique as you are learning the countdown.
 
So back to me, I started with the 100 – 1 method because I am a hard head. 🙂 I think I got to 68-Breath-Level before my counting startng getting very confusing, and eventually I was there.
 
Now once you learn this method, what is soooooooooo great about it, you can move from 100-1, then 50-1, then 25-1, then 10-1, then 3-1.
Image may contain: 1 person, textPersonally, I like the 10 to 1 method the BEST because the 3-1 rushed me (and I am a hard-headed Taurus who does not like being pushed) Remember the 3-finger key trigger.
 
Now I can use that 10-1 anywhere. Love it on airplanes–because you can go so deep by telling yourself as you induce yourself (all outside noises will make me go deeper and deeper) and THAT works for an very nice long NAP!!
When you WAKE say: Fully awake, feeling alive, ready to go!
 
This so works for you busy busy people.
You can even program when you will wake up. I look at the clock and say when ready for a 20 minute power nap (look at your clock to set 20 minutes in your mind, let’s say you sit down at 3:00pm) and say I will wake up at 3:20 pm, and by golly that is the exact minute your will eye pop open. I have been teaching from Dr. Émile Coué 1922 book:  Self Mastery Through Conscious Autosuggestion

To prove his theory in modern times, a plate of fresh, homemade cookies are put on the table in front of you . . . without thought . . . you do what? Should you go back to the Marshmallow test? In reality, your mind-body gets kicked into overdrive by the smell, the imagination of the taste and a feel for eating the cookies.
Imagination WINS without exception so training your mind is so important.

When Dr. Brian Weiss takes a client into TRANCE he uses these words:  “As you go to LEVEL . . . Imagine-Visualize-Feel ” and those 3 words hold the key to your success (remember the 3 fingers holding the key).

Whenever you see or hear the word KEY always bring your thumb to finger # 1 + # 2, TAP.

Now say ‘Imagine-Visualize-Feel’ with your fingers in KEY position.

According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, willpower is defined as “energetic determination” while “imagination”
is defined as “creative ability”.

STEP # 1 ‘Imagine-Visualize-Feel’ what you do want.
I like what Abraham Hicks say:
As you imagine + visualize then veralize your new story, in time, you will believe that new story. And when THAT happens, the evidence will flow swiftly into your experience.

STEP # 2 COUNT DOWN daily 100-1, then 50-1, then 25-1, then 10-1 and some can get to 3-1. Use the countdown process before going to sleep at night, as a substitute to a power nap, or a specific time of meditation . . . using this time to relax and focus your mind on what you do want.
Create it all in your imagination. GO to LEVEL

STEP #3 Continual reinforcement of a positive autosuggestion is extremely beneficial. The most powerful auto-suggestion is

Repeat this mantra, this autosuggestion 20 times. I count it offf very quickly on my fingers twice, then it is done!

When someone is in your life for a REASON,  it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty; to provide you with guidance and support; to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are!!
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
 
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
 
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.

HABIT REHAB DAY 22 TAME THE TONGUE

I give motivational speeches at conferences, and then come back to train employees in house or at corporate retreats. What I have found is that inspiration and motivation are no substitute for the perspiration that people must use when wanting to make some big changes in their lives.

Mahatma Gandhi says:
“BE the change you want to see in the world.”

To BE the change, start yourself in the silence of your own space and listen to that still small voice, that loud voice, that encouraging voice.

I love teaching the importance of JOURNALING. Maybe you have been doing journaling with me during the season of Lent over the past 22 days ?!?
JOURNALING allows you capture everything you see with your eye, behind your eye in your imagination and what is in your heart.

Florence Scovel Shinn says:

“Your WORD is your wand!”

Henry Ford once told his assembly line workers:
“Whether you believe you can or you can’t—you are always right”.

The words that come out of your mouth may seem of no consequence, but they can either build up or tear down yourself [and others] faster than any one thing in your life.

Journaling allows you to sort out your feelings so that you use your “tongue is your rudder”.  It has been said that a small rudder on a big ship in the hands of a skilled captain can set a course and keep the course in the face of the strongest winds.

Journaling makes you a skilled captain in the roughest waters!!

Training your mind and taming your tongue through journaling, allows you to clearly see-hear-feel what you are projecting to the world.
And you know what?
The world responds “in kind” to what you deliver in “equal to”
or “better than” what you are delivering to the world.

Dr Phil says you have to “Name it to Claim it”.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you are receiving it, and it will be yours”. Mark 11:24

Blessing or Curse – your tongue is the rudder and capturing the words spilling out of your mouth is a good idea, because you know “Loose Lips Sinks Ships”.

So Yes, your journaling may turn into a written prayer!

By reading it, by touching my journal every day, it is my walking visual prayer. It is where I protect all of my heart’s desires, my heart songs, my heart’s sadness.

Yesterday we discussed Definiteness of Purpose, today we talk about “What Happens in Vagueness, Stays in Vagueness”.

The slogan “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” is one of the most famous taglines in modern tourism marketing and one of the most quoted, talked about, and recognized ad campaigns in any industry.

The phrase has not only been a spark that’s helped drive millions of visitors to Sin City, but researchers discovered:
The emotional bond between Las Vegas and its customers . . . . was freedom.

FREEDOM ON TWO LEVELS:
(1) Freedom to do things, see things, eat things, wear things, feel things. In short, the freedom to be someone you cannot be at home.
(2) Freedom away from whatever you want to leave behind in your daily life.

So when BRANDING Sin City, the strategy became clear.
Speak to the need of moving toward what you cannot be at home and offer the opportunity to move away from everything you want to forget. Make an indelible connection between the city name of Las Vegas and the freedom we all crave.

So we go to VEGAS to lose ourselves, while we stay in VAGUENESS to forget ourselves. Possibly you have put yourself on the back burner for so long, you have no idea how to find the LINE OF TRAVEL to personal success and trying to define your “Definiteness of Purpose” feels impossible.

HABIT REHAB DAY 25

Yesterday we looked at the slogan “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” which is one of the most famous, most talked about taglines in modern tourism marketing.

To play off of that famous tagline, I penned a twist on that line to:
What Happens in VAGUENESS Stays in Vagueness“.
 
And isn’t it true that we go to VEGAS to lose ourselves for a period of time, while we stay in VAGUENESS to forget ourselves.
 
Perhaps you have put yourself on the back burner for so long, you have no idea how to find the LINE OF TRAVEL to personal success and trying to define your “Definiteness of Purpose” feels impossible because you:
1. Living in VAGUENESS for way too long and like your daily habits
2. Never gotten started – you are still RESEARCHING
3. Gotten into the habit of QUITTING when over taken by temporary defeat.
 
Getting started on a Journey of Success and out of Vagueness means you need: a MAP, a COMPASS and a COMMITMENT.
 
If you have been using the Habit-Rehab Journal, you have been able to see where you have been spending your time, and then, what you need to change to become more effective.
 
You have started mapping out what you do Want in our Mastermind Journal and on your vision board. The compass is used to keep you On Course and we do this in our journal each week, month, quarter with a review and revision of the line of travel we are on, checking on the detours we have taken (remembering that all detours cost you time-energy-money).

The Divine operation is always for expansion and fuller expression, and this means the production of something beyond what has gone before, something entirely new, not included in the past experience, though proceeding out of it by an orderly sequence of growth. And then the Commitment comes with the use of Napoleon Hill’s second principle:        The Mastermind Alliance.
The Mastermind principle consists of an alliance of two or more minds working in perfect harmony for the attainment of a common definite objective.
Success does not come without the cooperation of those whom are in your alliance and sometimes you may find that creating an imaginary counsel meeting in your ALPHA STATE is the best accountability partner available.
 
This is a binding agreement with ME (the Mental + E motional aspects) of yourself using 2 out of 4 parts of YOU.
Mental-Emotional-Physical-Spiritual
 
Lesson 2: Mastermind Alliance.
Definition: Two or more people who work in perfect harmony for the attainment of a definite purpose. Your readiness for success is recognizable by your willingness to stretch beyond your comfort zone. Your only real limitation is the one that you accept and set up in your own mind / M.E.- the Mental + Emotional aspects of yourself
 
Through the Master Mind Principle:
1. You may borrow and use the education, experience, influence, and the capitol of other people
2. You can accomplish in one year more than you could accomplish without it in a lifetime
3. You can draw freely upon the spiritual forces within you

4. You can have absolute protection against failure if your purpose is beneficial to all whom you influence

 TEAMWORK

Napoleon Hill defines “TEAMWORK” as the harmonious cooperation that is willing, voluntary and free. Whenever the spirit of teamwork is the dominating influence in business or industry, success is inevitable. Harmonious cooperation is a priceless asset that you can acquire in proportion to your giving.
Today we come to the realization that harmony in all human relationships plays a pivotal role in increasing our frequency for the purpose of attracting what we want.

Yesterday we talked about the use of Napoleon Hill’s second principle: The Mastermind Alliance, today we talk about the Habit of Going the Extra Mile!
 
DEFINITION: Rendering more service than is expected — with a positive mental attitude
 
THE QQMA FORMULA: Quality of service + Quantity of service + Mental Attitude = (determines) the space you occupy in your chosen calling and the compensation you get for your services. And if you have NO compensation, go back to day 25 as there is a good chance that you are stuck in Vagueness.
 
BENEFITS of following QQMA FORMULA:
 
1. Will bring you to the attention of those who can provide you with opportunities
2. Will place back of you the law of increasing returns
3. Will make you indispensable in your chosen calling and therefore able to write your own ticket
4. Will help you excel in your line of work
5. Will make you better liked by others
6. Will help you develop a keen, alert imagination
7. Will inspire you to move on your own personal initiative
8. Will help you to master procrastination
9. Will influence others to respect your integrity and inspire them to go out of their way to cooperate with you

D. Belief is that one quality you must develop before you can make use of the master key to success
E. The place to start believing is with yourself:

* 2. You can make it yield for you whatever you demand (not beg for) in life
F. Applied faith is the only means by which the master key can be appropriated and used

1. Your stepped-up VIBRATIONS of thought affect others more quickly — this is one of the most important requirements for leadership!
C. A short course in effective salesmanship and or applied leadership…

2. Offer a firm, quick handshake + deliver a smile (that is one curve that goes straight into the heart)

Napoleon Hill followed Dr. Émile Coué work carefully and I have outlined it above!
G. To learn to express yourself with enthusiasm:
1. Read aloud with all the enthusiasm at your command for 10 minutes each day (I coach speakers–this one thing is the one thing that people do not believe they need to do–but is where they fall short!!) Read aloud!!
a. Write and use a list of 10 subjects of keenest interest to you as a reference of this reading practice (read what you love aloud)
H. Enthusiasm is always easily expressed when one is inspired by a burning desire as the motive
1. These basic motivations: love, sex, desire for financial gain —
it’s said that a combination of all three can convert a mediocre person into a genius!

D. You are a leader in your field if you rate “OK” on each of these 16 traits of personal initiative:
1. Define major purpose and a plan for attaining it
2. A master mind alliance
3. Persistence when faced with seeming obstacles
4. Decisiveness
5. You do more than is paid for with a positive mental attitude
6. You accept full responsibility for your undertakings
7. You can take friendly criticism and profit by it
8. You never request anything without giving the other an adequate motive for doing so

A. You can transmute all past failures and mistakes [adversity + defeat] into assets
 
B. A fact that may give you immediate possession of the master key: your positive mental attitude is the only means whereby you may convert adversities and defeats into assets
 
C. It seems adversity is nature’s method of disciplining people to learn to take possession of their own minds
 
D. Our Greatest blessings often come from the greatest adversities so it is up to you to find the “equivalent benefit”
 
Ask yourself: what is my lesson from this adversity?
Have I lost YEARS of creative time by trying to MASK those “little evils” and consistently drawn IN your FEAR in FORM?
 
E. Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit —
 
a. Positive mental attitude is needed most to convert adversities and unpleasant experiences into assets

HABIT REHAB DAY 34: IMAGINATION + CONTROLLED ATTENTION

Napoleon Hill said this about imagination + controlled attention:
A. Responsible for building all our plans, aims and purposes
B. Imagination is workshop wherein we fashion the purposes of our brain and the ideals of our soul
1. Two forms:
a. Synthetic – new combination of recognized ideas
b. Creative – based in subconscious mind (new ideas)
C. Imagination becomes alert only by constant action
D. Session assignment… Set aside some time each day to write down in your Mastermind Journal at least 10 new ideas that will help you accomplish your major desire in life.

IF you remember, I outlined Dr. Émile Coué Method written about in his 1922 Self Mastery Through Conscious Autosuggestion, where he wrote:

“Internal conflict occurs between the WILL and the IMAGINATION … you will soon discover IMAGINATION is always stronger than will power, so avoid trying to wrestle with them through the force of willpower.”

Coué frequently insisted that his clients should exert “no effort” but instead take time for their imagination. This raised a minor semantic paradox, because using one’s imagination itself might be seen as an ‘effort of will’,
He said: “I cannot insist too strongly that in the practice of auto-suggestion the exercise of will must be strictly avoided, except in the initial phase of directing or guiding the imagination along the desired lines. This is absolutely the only manifestation of will necessary, or even desirable. (My Method, 14)
For this reason, Coué recommends “practising autosuggestion in the morning or at night, on the verge of sleep, at a time when conscious effort is naturally suspended by feelings of drowsiness. During the daytime, autosuggestions are repeated very rapidly to prevent the mind from straying onto antagonistic ideas”.

HABIT REHAB DAY 35: Success Tip for the Day

As we grow older, and wiser, we slowly realize that wearing a $300 or a $3.00 watch — they both tell the same time.
Whether we carry a $300 or a $3.00 wallet / handbag — the amount of money inside is probably the same.
Whether we drink a bottle of $300 or $10 wine — the hangover is definitely the same.
Whether the space we live in is 350 or 3500 sq. ft. — one’s sense of loneliness is the same.
Whether you drive a little Honda or a fancy Benz — they both serve the same purpose.
As you grow older + wiser, soon you will realize, your true inner happiness does not come from the MATERIAL things of this world.

We need to live our own lives, and this attitude should be instilled in childhood. With being yourself comes self-control, a mighty source of strength in handling both circumstances and people. Beware lest in trying to pile dollar upon dollar you give up too much of yourself, for that man is truly rich who owns his own mind as well as his own fortune. “LIVE your own life!
 
Life proceeds according to the great Law of Compensation.
The more you give of what you have, the more comes back to you – and it comes back greatly multiplied.

forever the foundation-secret of man’s efforts to control his destiny. Conceive a great step forward in your life, form a deep subconscious belief, and the belief becomes the very foundation of reality.

Your mind is your only master

All other creatures on earth are bound throughout their lives by a fixed pattern of instinct from which they cannot escape.
YOU are bound only by the pattern you set up in your own mind. YOU are limited by nothing else. Be patient in your search for peace of mind. If peace of mind were a quality which could be attained in one easy lesson, I would be glad to show the way in a short letter rather than by writing a book.
 
Self-control gives you strength.
To be yourself, practice self-control. Few people have difficulty in controlling their physical actions, but they may never stop to realize that physical actions begin in the mind. A man who succeeds in life must know where he is going, must fully possess his own mind and believe with full faith that this is it.

Even the “voice of authority” speaking to a child cannot prevail against a mind that knows itself. Even a child who is a potential criminal can be directed toward an honest and successful life when you show him his own vast potential for making good.
 
ADVERSITY? It’s a tonic, not a stumbling block
Life often brings hardship and discouragement, but a mind that knows itself becomes filled with success consciousness that never is lost.
 
You can help yourself by setting up a time limit within which you will achieve great goals. Even an unforeseeable world war did not prove a great enough obstacle to prevail against this mighty Personal Achievement Technique.
 
A success-conscious mind functions rapidly and effectively
Once you fill your mind with your self-directed success consciousness, you achieve a level of mind efficiency which does not depend on formal education.
 
Seeing your preferred goal ahead of you, you are magnificently able to find ways to get what you want. For a pioneer of the automobile age or a pioneer in the construction of modern computer parts, the principle which makes your mind work rapidly and effectively is always the same.

Even at the lowest-level jobs, your success waits within your own mind. Add value to your work and you set in motion the forces that make the concepts of your mind turn into the realities of living.
Every adversity has within it the seeds of an equivalent or a greater benefit
As you meet the circumstances of life they may seem adverse and damaging.  Later you find that every so-called misfortune sows the seed of greater fortune to come. To help this mighty dynamic work its wonders in your life, close the door on your past.  Carry along with you only what is pleasant and instructive.  Leaving gloom and pain behind you, you can see the future and make it yours.
Keep yourself aware of life’s endless combinations of circumstances
Do not believe that one experience of lost love or lost opportunity or other misfortune has ended your chances of winning what you thought you had lost. Some of the world’s greatest men knew failure after failure as they grew toward their ultimate success.

An entire business may be labeled failure and yet come to life and make millions in the hands of a man who sees success and speaks only of success.
Is there a definite connection between wealth and peace of mind?
There is a strong connection, but it is not unbreakable. Sufficient money is necessary to almost everyone who wishes to attain peace of mind, but wealth can steal happiness away from those who make it dishonestly or do not use it correctly.
Use your work and your wealth to help others.
Above all, make sure that as you climb the ladder of success you do not step upon anyone else.
Cutting the corners of dishonesty sets up a feeling of guilt which can destroy happiness. Even so, one who has erred can put his error firmly in the past, close the door and go on to great accomplishment.
Go the extra mile In work situations especially, grudges and a feeling of resentment play havoc with the mind’s ability to conceive and achieve. Going the extra mile has a tonic effect in relieving the mind of built-in obstacles. Add to your work more than you are paid for. Always qualify yourself for the next step upward and the steps beyond.
People who succeed are not people who hold grudges or who withhold their best work, but those who in every act and thought pave their way toward greater things.
